Thrilled, nervous, and happy, was how Víctor Leyva, Metepec Tec Bibultural High School freshman, reported feeling upon emerging victorious at the 4th Mexican History Olympics. Víctor managed to best the other four finalists in the nationwide competition, which included three elimination rounds.
The competition, organized by the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC) together with the Televisa Foundation, took place at the television network’s facilities in Mexico City's San Ángel neighborhood.
Víctor Leyva stated that the entered the contest out of curiosity and because of the challenge it represented. "I decided to compete as a personal challenge. I've been training since last October with Margarita Enríquez, my tutor. I won first prize for the Estado de México with the essay 'The Ideological Path of the Mexican Revolution's Political Plans' at the Veracruz elimination round, in May, and that secured me a spot among the 5 finalists in the 4th Olimpics."
Leyva won first place by besting the other finalists in the six-part final. The five finalists each received a diploma and a laptop computer.
The finals of the 4th Mexican History Olympics will be televised in the near future by Televisa in the framework of the festivities celebrating the Mexican Independence Bicentennial and the Revolution's Centennial.
